On behalf of the trustees I want to wish you a very happy and successful new year. Youth United Foundation has seven trustees who make up the Board of which I am the chair. Our ultimate responsibility is to direct the affairs of the charity and to ensure that it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the young people for whom it has been set up.
We meet quarterly to administer the formal aspects of our role but besides that, all of us are involved in the more informal activities that take place. I have been lucky enough to be invited to several events organised by our members.
In October I sat on the steps of the National Gallery to watch the Sea Cadets on parade in Trafalgar Square, celebrating Trafalgar Day. They put on an amazing show which was admired by several hundred people around the square.
Just recently, I attended a reception on the House of Lord’s Terrace to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Jewish Lads’ and Girls’ Brigade. I also attend meetings with chairs of our stakeholders and funders to promote the outstanding work of our member organisations and I am proud to report the successes we have achieved, particularly through the Supporting Inclusion Programme.
Finally, I consider it a real privilege to work alongside my fellow trustees, as well as the Youth United Foundation team who support us. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication and look forward to another great year.
Sue Lomas is Chair of Youth United Foundation's Board of Trustees and is also a trustee of Girlguiding.
