20th January 2017
Throughout 2016 and even before, the Albion Academy cadets have used their free time in school and time outside of school to sell poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion. As a result of their dedication, one of the cadets was nominated to carry the Standard for the Royal British Legion during the Remembrance Day Parade 2016.
The contingent also attended the Parade and represented themselves and the school fantastically. Prior to the Parade, the cadets gave up numerous afternoons after school, as well as a couple of Saturday mornings to practice their drill to ensure they presented themselves, the school and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) unit in the best possible light in this very public setting. This paid off, as a Squadron Commander from another unit commented on their professionalism and praised the standard of their drill.
Their participation in this event helped further raise the profile of the Air Cadets in Salford, as well as raise the profile of the school’s own CCF in the local area. The experience was also hugely beneficial to the cadets themselves, who commented that it was inspiring to meet some of the veterans and to hear and listen to their experiences.
