Christmas is just around the corner and as such we are taking a look at what one of the UYSAF funded groups are doing to give back to their community and their church. As part of The Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade company All Saints and Martyrs, young people have been raising money and engaging in some Christmas social action to help out their local communities over the Christmas period.
As is the tradition The Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade company All Saints and Martyrs have been involved in some fantastic social action for their community in the run up to Christmas. Recognising that Christmas can be a pressured time for some, the company incorporated a toy service in to their parade on Sunday 6th December. Children from the brigade were asked to purchase a new toy and bring it with them to the parade service. Once the toys have all been collected the clergy will be distributing the toys to local children who come from struggling families on the estate and who are unlikely to receive a Christmas present otherwise.
As well as the Toy Service the young people from All Saints and Martyrs also took part in a carols, candles and cake fund raiser for the church. This included carols sung by candle light in the church hall and the event was attended by some of the congregation and members of the local community.
Nothing sees in Christmas like a Christmas party night and All Saints and Martyrs celebrated in style! The young people enjoyed party games and a visit from Father Christmas as part of the evening. Also, keeping in the spirit of social action, there was a prize for the best homemade fancy dress costume. This is to encourage the young people to make a costume from the things they have in the home, rather than asking families to buy one during what can be an expensive time of year.
